2010 911 GT3 - it's pretty

Moving very quickly to (at least very new) the top of my list of dream cars, Porsche announced details of the new GT3 that everyone knew was coming. Lots of cool stuff included in the new version, including special engine mounts, and a hydraulic something or other that allows the front end to be raised by a couple of inches to get it in your driveway without taking out the splitter. And it's more powerful and faster as well, so there's not much not to like.

Of course, at $112k before you've ticked a single option box (and I'm sure there's going to be a few you're really going to "need"), you could always buy yourself an apartment instead.....

Jack Richard Tonkin Arrives into the World

First off, apologies for the lateness of this post. Blame my usual inherent laziness combined with a quick trip at the start of the week. But, we have a new Tonkin in the world - Jack Richard, born on January 25th at 9.16pm. He weighed in at 7lb 10oz and measured 20.5 inches (presume that was his total length given his age, rather than him getting out some early bragging rights...)

Aly's doing good, Tonks is surviving the increased responsibility without exploding in a stress filled mess, and they're home from hospital enjoying their family time. Congrats guys - you did good.

Smallest Fuel Cell

It's only 3mm across, and can send out an amp for 30 hours (which won't charge your iPod just yet). If you want to get more details on the next generation of fuel cells, check out the New Scientist article.

Best Snowboard Ever?

It won't work in powder, it costs nearly 2 grand, and you have to pre-order it, so no demo days before you buy, so I'll let you decide that one. Oh, and it's called The Whip. Nice.

Obama get his new job next week

I'm wondering if he's having second thoughts already? After constantly using his BlackBerry during his presidential run, now that he won, the scary secret people are going to take it away. It'll have to be replaced with something NSA approved, which means probably one of the two dogs of a phone above are what he's likely going to have to try to fit in his pocket.

On a similar note, we've gone an informal (but definitely always considered) rule about email in the office. If we ever get approached by a company looking to acquire us, and they're going to force us to use Lotus Notes, the deals off. No questions asked, no debate, no further negotiations - it's just off. Best idea we ever had (well, not really, but I like it a lot).

Portable Bike Lane

Well, not quite, but it is something that gives you a better chance of making it home at night if you like to ride your bike in the dark. This great idea uses lasers to create your own bike lane on the road, giving the drivers of cars (and buses - they were always the worst) a better chance of missing you. I fancy one just to keep a bit of personal space when I'm wandering around the pubs at night - wonder if you can swap out the bike sign for something a little more stylish - maybe have you're own dancefloor with laser handbags already placed in the middle or something? Now there's a life-changing idea.......

Minority Report Has Arrived

Check out this video of the latest gesture based interface from Oblong, in their product Tamper. It's completely insane, and apparently if you're heading down to the Sundance Film Festival, you might be lucky enough to try it out for yourself. I'm in awe....

Want one

Obviously. Maybe even two..... No will it fit in my office, and can I get away with expensing it?

They still make Air Jordans??

Apparently so, and here's the details if you have a trainer fetish. Kinda reminds me of the hotmail post from Rufus yesterday.

Mini Stamp (and other great British Designs)

The UK is releasing a new set of stamps, featuring iconic designs from over the years. The full details are here (but no iPod - can we not claim that because of Jonathan Ive?? - maybe it's not old enough).

Pagani Zonda R

The final version of the super supercar Pagani Zonda has been announced. I still can't quite get over the size of the front splitter - you could serve a pizza on that thing (but of course I still want one).

Aston is worse than the Subie version

I posted the Subaru version of this a while ago. However, this is even worse - guess they were right when they said it wasn't a good time to buy a car...... (but have you seen the prices of second hand 911's at the minute!!)

The world's most beautiful castles

Just for the wife...

And it made me smile when Bamburgh was the first one mentioned. My personal favorite, and just a quick drive up the coast from where I grew up.

Fast and Furious 4

I guess Vin Diesel's career didn't quite pan out like he hoped, so he's back, along with Paul Walker. I fully admit to liking these movies way more than I technically should....

Best Laptop Bag

Possibly anyway - the guys over at DVICE certainly liked it, and it has enough storage places to keep even me happy (as long as I'm not bringing my real camera along for the ride).

McLaren SLR Stirling Moss Edition

Well, if you're going to finish the run of SLR's, you may as well fleece the owners for as much as you can with a silly final edition. Not sure how 200 mph feels without a windscreen, but you better hope the flys get scared away by the noise of the engine.

Handsfree For Tonks?

Following yesterdays debarcle of iPhone proportions, and his inherent hatred for bluetooth headsets, maybe this is the perfect solution for Tonks?

Finally it's happening - the UK is getting it's first Chipotle - can't wait - this is going to make the trips back home that much easier now 8-)
