Snowboarding

I managed to sneak off for a day of crowd free boarding on Wednesday. Tried out Beaver Creek for the first time ever - it was pretty cool (and pretty cold by late afternoon), and the post boarding high has lasted until now (and maybe longer). Of course, heading up on your own means no-one to take vids/pics when you ride stylishly down the mountain (or in my case tumble head first), so I've stole this vid from Flange's recent stash. The bowls at Keystone were the first I ever did - still remember coming out of a shoot near the bottom upside down.....

Lambo in the Snow

If you're feeling a little cold over there in the UK, here's an idea for something to do with your time, instead of sitting in front of the fire (and good luck getting snow tires that size)

Best Snowboard Ever?

It won't work in powder, it costs nearly 2 grand, and you have to pre-order it, so no demo days before you buy, so I'll let you decide that one. Oh, and it's called The Whip. Nice.

Be Green in Winter

Great idea (which I'm kinda tempted to purchase) - it wasn't quite what I thought of for filling the extra space in the garage if I ever get another space (reserved in my head for an Exige, a Caterham, or my daily driver if I can afford a GT3).

Details and a vid over at Treehugger if you're interested.

Ski Season Officially Begins

A-Basin opened today (with temps in Denver still in the 70's). I think this may be the earliest opening date ever, but it's perfect timing as my brother gets here from England on Saturday 8-)

Gotta Love That Weather!

So not content with blasting us for the first couple of months of the year, the weather has decided to throw a few more punches before winter finally disappears into the history books.

Snow totals on the left are meant to be a forecast for the next 24 hours in Denver - however, they were based on the latest predictions of a mid evening start to the snow, and looking outside now (at 52 minutes after midday), it's started already. So I have a feeling I may end up working from home tomorrow, but we'll see how it goes. I'm just glad I got my little driving trip up North (which I may post about - haven't decided yet) out of the way yesterday, when it was a little windy, but nice and sunny and clear.

And, according to the weather man last night, this storm isn't the big one - the one coming in on Sunday night is the one we should be worried about. Of course, Denver being Denver, there also predicting sunny and 60 degrees on Sunday day time. You gotta love this place - at least it's never boring. And just for the record, Mr Wallace asked my advice 2 weeks ago on whether or not to put his summer tires on, and I recommended no (which of course he ignored, and will be stuck in the house for the next few days, 4-wheel drive or not).

An Update for later Updates

No pics of Vegas uploaded yet - we got back late due to more snow in Denver yesterday (another foot to dig out of our driveway), the wife's velly velly sick and in bed, and I was late for work. So, full updates later on when I get the pics and videos loaded up. Let me tell you it'll be worth the wait though (well, maybe not, but I'm trying). Hopefully have some good pics of the big fight on Saturday night (Ricky Hatton, not me), and none of me getting escorted out of Hard Rock by the nice bouncers at Body English, so stay tuned.

Oh, yeah, and this is the first weather forecast we've had in the last 6 weeks that has no snow in the forecast - it makes me smile.....

Snow in Denver - Part 3

Sorry, I know this is getting a bit boring - every Thursday or Friday, a new storm appears, and we all hunker down in the house with (hopefully) enough beer and logs for the fire to get us through the weekend. This weeks is apparently minor, but the predicted midday stopping point slid by without a break, and updated forecasts for 5pm are now superceded by a middnight prediction. Oh happy days.

Still, looking on the bright side of things, the roads aren't quite as bad as depicted below (although this morning, the difficulty in pulling away was experienced by at least one car at every junction I had to stop on). Stay warm if you're in Denver, and enjoy the glow of warmth (or lack of ice) if you're somewhere else.

Big Dig Has Started

Snow has almost topped, so the big dig has started - it was a full on street party outside, as you can tell by the pics here.

Snow buries car, Aaron cries

Not really (the crying bit), but I'm sure I will be when I have to start shovelling (i'm holding out until the snow actually stops, unlike our super keen neighbours who are giving it a go as we speak).

I had a couple of questions about how bad the snow is this time, so finally got around (or the wife did actually) to loading up the photos I've been taking over the last 24 hours, to give you a picture of what it's like in our street. All are of the car, which is relegated to the driveway until we complete the bathroom remodel (or at least start moving the stuff out of the garage into the bathroom).

First pic - I took this coz I thought it was pretty impressive (or it would be to the people back in Newcastle). It was about 11 yesterday morning I think.

It kept snowing, so I took another one after lunch - there are tracks to the left, as Heidi's work made her go in the office first thing, only to send everyone back home after an hour, when they realized that the weather forecast was right. We had to push her car up the driveway to get it back under cover, and that was around 1pm.

This one was around 9pm - as you can see, the car is completely buried. The weather forecaster said we'd had over 16 inches and it wasn't going to stop until lunchtime today (still snowing now....). After this, I went back and opened another Guinness. Not much else to do when all the TV programs are repeats, and you're stuck in the house ;-)

Last pic for now, taken at about 8.15 am. It's still snowing, and the car has disappeared completely. If there were some really clever thieves out there, they could have replaced the car with a big box and I won't find out about it until much much later.

Beer and food hasn't ran out yet, and we've still got power, so all is good.
