Feld Thoughts: Discovering Work Life Balance

Take note, it's important... I might even try it ;-)

Feld Thoughts: Discovering Work Life Balance

I obviously don't agree with any of this..

but it was just too funny to pass up

Now this is funny - you have to click the link though, coz it's Friday night, so I'm lazy and have a stottin headache...

New web addresses

So I splashed out (all 10 bucks per site) and you can now access this page from www.aaronsdayoff.com and www.aaronsdayoff.co.uk

You'll get exactly the same content (hopefully anyway), as I just forwarded the sites to the same page, but it's a little easier to type in if it's not already in your favo(u)rites ;-)

Now if I can get my arse in gear and add in some Adsense scripts, and you nice people click on the occasional advert, I could start making 20 cents a month from this thing. I know, I can dream....

I want one of these

Rumours are it's even for my crappy Sprint service - I wit with baited breath (but really hope we change the company phone provider to a GSM based one so I can have my choice of phones and use it when I go back home).

Neice part 2 - the return of Meaghan

Not literally, but I finally found a recent pic in my old emails from Deborah to post on here.

Poor guy - given the responsibility of carrying someone elses keys, the only place they could find to put theme was here? No wonder he looks so worried....

And the fact that I just realized he's called Mr P got me worried now. I'm off to hide in a corner crying.

Rough Day for Driving

I'm sure some of this is totally blown out of proportion, but two tickets, a crash and stealing gas (petrol) and a hat can't be considered a good day in anyone's books. Still, it gives Rodman another story to tell when he's old and grey (if he ever gets there).

And of course, plenty of free publicity for the "race" he's in, which is obviously working, as I hadn't even heard of it before I read this article.

Note to self - get yourself on the invite for one of these things.

Day Trippin

So the camping weekend went great (we avoided the bear attack on Friday night, probably more through luck and pure drunkeness than being prepared) - it was nice to hang out in the wilderness for a couple of days, with no cell phone or internet access. I'd definitely recommend it, especially since sometimes it feels like we're connected 24/7 for weeks on end. In fact, it was so good, we're planning it all again for Labo(u)r Day weekend. Let me or Heidi know if you're interested (and we actually know you of course - you didn't just randomly stumble across this blog....)

So yesterday was a little on the hectic side - Heidi was 29 (and still looks about 21), and I got called out of town at the last minute (well, arranged on Thursday night, so pretty last minute). A day trip to San Diego was required, to spend some time with one of our big customers while they were out at a conference. It was a good meeting, but a long day - up and out of the house by 7am, and not back until 9.30pm (including catching an earlier flight than originally planned). Heidi was a star and didn't give me grief about leaving her on her birthday. Still felt pretty bad about it all, but hopefully will make it up to her with an extended period at home now (well, extended compared to recently - get 3 weeks of no travel if I play my cards right)

Holly's 2.5 pictures

Now I'm a pretty lucky guy really, with a very cool family all around, so you have to indulge me when I go a little crazy with the photos sometimes.

First installment has pics from Holly - she's 2 and a half, gorgeous, loads of fun, and can obviously wrap me round he little finger any time she likes. (And no Meaghan, I haven't forgotten you - I just need to find where your latest pics are ;-p )

Widerness Ways

So it's ridiculously hot, so what better way to avoid the heat than head into the middle of the countryside, avoiding all air-con, and sleep in a tent for the night? Hmmm, that is the plan , but we're packing lots of ice (or is that heat) so we should be good. And after a brief scare involving fire bans and the thought of sitting around in the circle with no fire to look at, it turns out my geography of Colorado is poor enough that it doesn't affect us. So bring on the burning of marhsmallows - I'm ready......

It's a hot one!

I know everyone in England keeps telling me it's been warm back there, and they're having a heatwave, but here's the deal - I'm physically melting in Denver.

We had record temperatures yesterday, where the "official" temp was 105 - this is measured out at DIA for some reason (which seems to me to be a little weird, given DIA hasn't existed for all that long). Anyway, downtown, we had 109 (and apparently even got a mention on the news in Atlanta!).

So just to put this in perspective, when I went to bed last night at 10.30, it was still 82 degrees - I can't even remember a day in Newcastle when it hit 82 as the high! On the way home from work at 6, it was 97!!

I think we're going to have to start a fund for Heidi, so we can get her a new car with A/C in it. Although, having said that, this is probably the only time of year when she feels "warm"!

StrangeVehicles.com

So if you fancy wasting away half a day (or a few minutes while wolfing down a sarnie at lunchtime like I did), this site is perfect. Lots of interesting stuff here, and some of it is even real. Of course, lots of random photoshopping as well, so don't ask me how to get hold of anything on this site (Heidi, that means you when you find the dinky little cars ;-)

Here's a sample, just to wet your appetite

What a great idea

As everyone knows, the photos that get used on primetime tv when you're the subject of some news item is never the one that you want. It ends up being the dodgy graduation photo, or some scary photo snap after you've had 5 margaritas by the pool. I know for a fact, my Nana would think that my graduation photo would be perfect for such a situation, but given the fact that I'm sunbed orange and wearing a silly hat (as well as about 40 pounds lighter than I am now), doesn't fill me with as much pride.

So, some clever guy has set up a site to store your photo that can be used if/when you get blown up by a terrorist bomb. It's your last chance to make your stand....

Never Take Your Eye off the Goal

Or things like this could happen to you too.

The Boss is a Movie Star!!

What do you do when your boss becomes a movie star? Cry with despair, carry on as normal, or try to blag your way into his Entourage??

This got the biggest laugh in the office for a long long time, and we're a pretty happy bunch of people.

Wedding Crashers, the unoffical trailer....

First time for everything

Now I hate chrome on cars, especially wheels (I know, I'm behind the times), but it just annoys me. What doesn't annoy me are nice big fat rims - I always thought the bigger the better, ever since I saw an old Mk1 Golf with 17 inch ones (it was a long long time ago). However, I think we might have hit the limit here. And on a Hummer - those things are huge anyway, so I didn't think it was actually possible to get them too big on one of these.

Pic was from the Japenese Import Car Show if you want to check out a few other pics. (and Import in Japan means not Japanese, in case you're wondering)

Pee Goal

So this thing looks like a lot of fun to me - can keep you entertained for hours, especially after 8 pints of Stella.

However, there seems to be a couple of problems with the concept - first of all, who has a urinal in their house? Not me, although I did see one once over here in the States when looking around lots of houses that I could never afford. Heidi seemed to like the idea, although hopefully she wasn't implying that I have poor aim.

So, if you can't use it in the house, where could you use it? Take it with you down the pub? This might be fun the first time, but after you've used it once, do you really want to pick up, wash it off and carry it around until you need another piss? I think not. And it's a little on the expensive side to bring one for each piss you think you're going to take (although it could be argued that the increasingly popular "attendant" concept in the clubs around Denver - yes Rise, I'm talking about you - are almost as expensive. I really really hate having to pay to take a piss, and I can squirt my own soap and get my own towel thank you very much, but I digress). I guess the only other option would be to either persuade your local to have them installed (although I don't really have a local anymore, after moving from the apartment, and more importantly Potts), or just start taking one out to random pubs, leaving it there, and hoping the owners (and/or cleaners) like it enough to leave it there for you next time.

Baby's abound

After all the depressing news yesterday, it's about time we started looking at the cool stuff again. And there isn't anything much cooler than a new baby entering into the world. For some reason, everyone seems to be "with child" this year - Heidi counted 18 of our friends and family who are due this year......

So first off, congrats to Bezza boy (Mark to his mother) and Allison on the birth of Isobel Grace Berry, 6lbs 8oz and born on Monday June 27th (I know, I'm late, but I didn't find out until this morning, so technically this is damn fast!). All are doing well, and Alexandra seems to be willing to share her mothers time (and the carry cot!).

Next up Matt and Lorri, who now have a beautiful baby girl, Syndey Mae. Lori used to work with Heidi over at Genesys, before a brief (but from what I can gather very enjoyable) foray into the land of Denmark to play footy (Matt, not Lori) for a team that sounds like Udinese, but isn't (coz that would be Italy). I really need to work on my memory - it's getting worse by the minute. Anyway, Matt is by far the most knowledgable footy person I've talked too who comes from the USA (which I guess, given it's his job, is understandable, and sorry Rami, you were close).

Anyway, I don't have all the details the girls like, but I do have a pic, from the usual Brecke network of life (cheers me dears).

Travel Agent Stories

From the web, so you never know whether or not it's true, but funny all the same. Reminded me of my mother (sorry Mam!).
A woman called to make reservations, "I want to go from Chicago to Hippopotamus, New York" The agent was at a loss for words. Finally, the agent: "Are you sure that's the name of the town?" "Yes, what flights do you have?" replied the customer. After some searching, the agent came back with, "I'm sorry, ma'am, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a Hippopotamus anywhere." The customer retorted, "Oh don't be silly. Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!" The agent scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, "You don't mean Buffalo, do you?" "That's it! I knew it was a big animal!"

I made it into Google!!

Through some very obscure entering of phrases, I can now find this blog in Google. Maybe my life's mission is complete now. Probably not - still got to get the Porsche, Ferrari, Caterham et al for the garage, and ensure the continuing success of the company (which hopefully will one day in the distant future) fund a car or two from the list.

It's been a weird day - had the usual urge when anything bad happens back home to jump on the next plane, but given I don't know anyone injured, and the UK based portion of the family are 300 miles North, it would be a little on the pointless side.

I did find a somewhat entertaining blog from the CEO over at Delicious-Monster I was talking about the other day. Not only does he have his very own Lotus Elise, his blogs could possibly rival Mr Nixta's in length and detail. And they're even entertaining. Check it out here if you like.

XP'tastic

I upgrade, pretty pain free as it turns out (with the help of 3 emails and a download from Sid). I even got my computer to run at it's clock speed, rather than the 1/3 performance XP want to run at for some unknown reason.

But this still made me laugh

And does anyone ever read this blog? I haven't had a comment for about 20 months, and I can't be bothered to check the stats to see if they can tell me anything. I'm guessing not, but at least it helps me keep track of my life (sort of).

BBC Invasion Continues - Top Gear Arrives

And this one will save Mr Wallace a couple of gigs in hard disk space from his home made "watch English TV in the US" system he set up. He can concentrate on The Bill and Eastenders now ;-)

Now if only I didn't have to pay 20 bucks to watch Newcastle get beat when they're on Sky, and someone brought across Soccer AM, it'd be in heaven.
