For the geekier friends among my geeky friends

If writing software isn't geeky enough for you, Bug Labs let you mess around with the hardware (and firmware) as well. Their latest release incorporates WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity into the base station. If you're tired of waiting for all that Smart Home stuff to become reality, you can always build your own, or something equally cool......

The Badger Returns

"

Especially for Mr Penn is this nostalgic (but modern) take on the 911 from Singer. It looks (apart from the roof material) eerily similar to the Golden Badger that once adorned the Enspiria parking lot (before aforementioned Penn felt guilty about polluting the world and ditched the car ownership thing altogether).

Bet you look good on the dancefloor

01, originally uploaded by Neil Stone.

Yesterday was a bit of an epic. On site with a customer in Kentucky in the morning, driving back to Indy in the afternoon, flight back to Denver, quick change and out to see The Arctic Monkeys at The Ogden that night, quickly followed by a full Irish Breakfast and buying Neil a car bomb for his birthday drink. Wow, it's tiring just to type that.

Anyway, it kinda reminded me that it's possible to fit a lot of stuff just into one day. I think as I've got older, I get a bit more scared about over-committing (or I'm just getting lazier), and sign up for less and less. I've made a bit of a concerted effort this year to do more stuff outside of work than I did last year, just to try and keep me sane more than anything.

Next up, a late, loud and sweaty concert coming up on Monday night (Manic Street Preachers, in one of the smallest venues in Denver) - I'm going to pretend I'm not even tired on Tuesday (but don't ask me any difficult questions that day.....)

HPR (Finally)

So I somehow managed to not drive HPR all summer, despite the fact it's close and new and a fantastic track. I finally got my arse in gear, along with Mr Thompson, and joined the Z Car Club to get in an organized track day, rather than get eaten alive (maybe) on an open day. It was good to try and learn the line in a pretty relaxed atmosphere, and the rain managed to hold off until pretty late in the day (although it wasn't Colorado's warmest day).

The groups we were in meant me and Gareth didn't get much time to hang out during the day, but then the stars aligned in the afternoon and he jumped in the car with his camera to take some video of the laps. This ended up being my last session of the day - a few laps in the brakes went so I had to ease off a bit to get through the end of the session, and they weren't in any sort of fit state after that to handle any more laps (even without the minor flood that engulfed the track). I have a few pics I took out there as well that I need to load up (Gareths are here)which I hopefully will get to this weekend.

And any of you track rats who've been dialing in the perfect line on HPR want to offer any (constructive) criticism on the line, feel free in the comments - this is the first time I've hit a track without any instruction on where I'm meant to be driving, so I'm sure there's plenty of improvement to be made.

Kanye West - Wanker

Video probably won't stay up for long, but if you missed the VMA's (and lets face it, it was the wise thing to do), you might not have seen this

500bhp Quad

I rode a quad once. On a track, for a little while at least. Just up until I drove it off the track and upside down on top of me. It provided a lot of entertainment for my brother (who's stag/bachelor party event it was), so that was good, but they're not my most favorite form of transport. And definitely not with 500bhp....

Ferrari Fiat 500!

First off, this is actually legit (or lijit I should say) - Ferrari have helped Fiat put together this fancy little number. It's a littl cuter, a little faster, handles a little better, and is obviously redder. And I think I want one....

Exoskeleton Hits the Streets of Tokyo

The full suit comes in three sizes, with the largest weighing 50lbs. A full suit will rent for about $2300 per month, which is about the same as a lease on a Lamborghini..... (there's videos if u follow the link). I'm taking bets on the public outrage the first time these are used in some sort of armed robbery or criminal activity.....

It ain't cheap

If you ever get really rich, Leica are apparently the camera's to have. This is the latest, and I think it runs a cool 6 grand - having seem some photos taken by the last version (funnily enough called the M8), it's no doubt a great bit of kit, but I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon.

McLaren's New Supercar

: "

It's pretty and it's fast, but they put one of those non-manual gearbox things in it. I guess the days of manual gearboxes in supercars has officially ended (so get yours while you can). Anyway, lots of lightness here, and a super-efficient (but still powerful) engine, and I'm guessing it handles like a dream, but it's gonna be a little more expensive than the new Ferrari I'm guessing, so start saving your pennies now if you want one.

Fishing Makes the Wife Happy

IMG_4832, originally uploaded by Aaron in Denver.

We spent the weekend at a friends condo up in Granby - it was pretty relaxing (my nap level hit a recent high), but we still got out to explore a few places. The wife has taken up fishing, and even though she didn't catch anything (which is probably my fault as even my Grandad nicknamed my Jonah when I was a kid for never catching a thing), she still managed a smile or two. I managed to sneak a quick shot just before it got dark and we headed into Grand Lake for some much needed food.

Brothers Hit the Big Leagues

Now that blogger has decided to start letting me upload pics again, I can catch up a little.

So this past weekend the brothers back in England did their bit for charity by playing footy in a tournament in aid of Bobby Robson's cancer charity (pretty certain that was the cause, but you can correct me in the comments if I got it wrong). One of the perks of signing up teams was that each one was allocated a former Newcastle player as "coach" for the tournament.

Daniel and Matthew kinda lucked out I'm guessing, and got Stevie Watson. He's a local lad who was (and still holds the record by the way) the youngest player to ever play for Newcastle's first team, when he was still only 16. He played for us a lot in the 90's, when I was in the "go to as many games as I could" phase of my life (all home of course, and plenty of away games too), so I was a big fan. He had a pretty incredible touch, and enough skill that he ended up playing pretty much every position at one point or another in his career. Ruud Gullit made plenty of mistakes in his time as manager of Newcastle, and one of them was selling Steve to Villa. I'm pretty jealous I wasn't back home this weekend....
