Private Browsing

If you've ever done any work travel, you know that the people sitting next to you on the plane or in the airport just can't help looking over at your screen to check out what you're working on. Now, if you really wanted, you could go for one of those techie and expensive 3M screen covers that mean you can only ever see your screen from directly straight ahead. Great, unless you're on vacation with the wife and trying to watch a movie or something, or showing colleagues a presentation.

As always, someone's come up with a low tech way to avoid this problem. It could be a life (well career at least) saver.

Tesla Model S - it's electric

In general, I don't really like electric cars. Sure, the Tesla roadster was kinda fast, but why wouldn't you just buy an Elise and not worry about the battery crapping out on you in a couple of years? And weight - light is good. Lighter is very good. (plus I secretly believe that all the production costs/effort, combined with disposing of the battery afterwards is actually a lot worse for the planet than a decent sportscar).

But this new sedan they've released is actually gorgeous. It's how I thought the new Jag was going to look, before they bottled it and pushed some Toyota like blandness into the final version. And take a look at the screen in the center console - apart from the fact that if you switch it on, it'll use so much power your roundtrip will be cut short by 30 miles (that bit isn't actually true).

Anyway, other notable things - 300 mile range (allegedly), along with 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, and 7 seats, which really translate into 5 normal seats, and two kids rear facing ones in the boot/trunk.

Recycle and save the world

Or just get everyone to laugh at you? I can't think of a better use for old blow up dolls, can you? Just be careful if weirdos start following you. Closely.

You make me sick

Well, not you specifically, more like ex F1 driver Damon Hill driving a little too fast for a journalist as they're reviewing a Merc. The air they get in the middle is pretty impressive, especially for the road.

Leaving Palm Springs

Palm Springs Wind Farm, originally uploaded by ms4jah.

Been out at the ESRI Business Partner Conference for the last couple of days, enjoying the sunshine and warmth (and wind) of Palm Springs. I never realized quite how windy it got until flights starting turning back on Sunday as the planes couldn't land. Guess there is a reason why they have all the wind turbines out here.

Anyway, other updates - the smoking has still stopped. Haven't killed anyone yet, although I don't think I could have picked a more stressful week or two to give up if I had tried. Guess it's just a bit more of a test, but the fact that I've survived up until now is a good sign.

In other news, confirmation has been made that I'm now a fully fledged adult, after going to Bed, Bath and Beyond and buying a new pan set, and a new knife set (along with a mop and humidifier), and completely bypassing the Apple store for a new laptop. LIfe may never be the same again.

I've also (finally) managed to convince my Dad to come spend some time out here in the summer, so looking at getting those flights sorted this week. It looks like he'll be here for the Pueblo Driving School, which will be cool. There may even be some other people I know showing up this time, if they get off their arse and book when the time comes, so stay tuned.

On a related note, it's now only a few weeks (well 4) until the Lotus Driving School trip arrives. It's been booked since last year, and the excitement has been building up, with an increasing number of emails from the car crazy group trickling over the interweb. It's gonna be a blast out there from what I can tell - just hope I don't get shown up too much on the track......

Smooth Skating

Both my brothers used to be pretty good skaters when they were growing up (Daniel even went for trials for the England roller hockey team - think he got in but then never played for them, but I'm old so my memory's going these days), so I'll wait for them to comment on these. Anything that gets me down the street with less exertion, and a nice smooth ride seem good to me though, so I'm voting yes for these. Not sure how hockey stops might work in these though - could be fun watching someone else try.....

Hmm, one day I'll actually learn to type properly and get the spelling on my titles correct....

Ninja Umbrella

Definitely in the category of stuff you'll have trouble getting through airport security is the Ninja Umbrella. I'm not sure if it provides special powers or not, but I'm thinking Rihanna probably needs one....

Google Street View UK - the real UK

So, big news today (or maybe yesterday) was the release of StreetView data for the UK. Of course, having all of those special cameras drive up and down high streets across the country mean that foreigners now get a real view of what actually happens on the streets of England. As can be seen from the photo, it normally involves a post-drinking binge puke in the middle of the pavement/sidewalk, something covered in very few brochures that I'm aware of. At least we were spared the pissing in the doorway on the way home (so far anyway).

Update - looks to me like Google is spoiling our fun, and took the image down. That's so not fair....

Update2 - however, you can just move a little further down the street and look back for the side view of the image 8-) Did I tell you I love technology?

No Smoke without Fire

If you follow me on Twitter, or read my Tumblr, you'll know this already, but I quit smoking yesterday. It feels just like it looks in this photo, but I've managed more than 24 hours now, and I'm still alive. Not sure what I'm gonna do when I run out of fingernails though, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Anyway, that could mean one of two things for this blog - you get to read more posts coz I don't lose 5 minutes every hour, and so can become much more productive, or, you get zero posts coz I threw my computer out of the window in a nicotine detox rage. Stay tuned....

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

I went to the garage today to buy one of these, but ended up forgetting what it was called, so couldn't put my order in. Then I woke up....

Update - looks like there's a pretty special video now. Turning up the volume works pretty well ;-)
